Finalist for the 1974 Tony Award for Best Play, IN THE BOOM BOOM ROOM follows a naïve young woman named Chrissy who arrives in 1960s Philadelphia with dreams of becoming a successful dancer. To make ends meet, she works as a go-go dancer in a squalid bar called “Big Tom’s Boom Boom Room.” She soon finds herself in unhealthy relationships with various men and women, who try to manipulate her for their own purposes. Chrissy searches for love and beauty in the face of this toxic world, which threatens to swallow her up. Her desperate fight for survival offers a glimmer of hope amid the glare of broken neon.
